ASAC Participates in National Drug & Alcohol Fact Week
National Drug and Alcohol Fact Week was March 21-27 and April is Alcohol Awareness Month. This can be a time to encourage a conversation with youth about the facts of drug use and dependence. It provides an opportunity to bring together students, educators, healthcare providers and community partners to improve the prevention and awareness of substance misuse in our own communities.
CDC Recommends Additional Boosters for Certain Individuals
Boosters are safe, and people over the age of 50 can now get an additional booster 4 months after their prior dose to increase their protection further. This is especially important for those 65 and older and those 50 and older with underlying medical conditions that increase their risk for severe disease from COVID-19 as they are the most likely to benefit from receiving an additional booster dose at this time.

April is National Alcohol Awareness Month

We want our community to be safe and healthy, so let’s work together to understand the effects of alcohol.Alcohol works by slowing down the brain. When alcohol is paired with caffeine, a stimulant that increases brain activity, the brain has a difficult time processing the amount of alcohol that is in the body.
IDPH Celebrates International Adolescent Health Week
The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) is recognizing International Adolescent Health Week March 20-26, 2022, and encourages all Iowans to put the health, safety, and well-being of children first every day, but especially during this week. Despite the challenges young people face today, Iowa teens are thriving:The percentage of 11th grade students who reported having at least one drink of alcohol in the past 30 days decreased from 26.

Virginia Gay Hospital in collaboration with Benton County Public Health to conduct a survey assessing the top health and community needs of the people we serve. The following survey questions are based on six factors important for the health and well-being of everyone in your community. ASAC Works to Lower Substance-use Related Deaths through Workplace Changes
Seventy-seven percent of individuals who use substances are employed either full or part-time, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In addition, employed individuals with a substance use disorder are three to four times more likely to have an accident on the job and five times more likely to file a workers’ compensation claim according to the Employee Assistance Society of North America.
